Rhoda Akua Chapo is the Founder and Creative Director of Handmade by Akua, a contemporary African design brand reimagining traditional Ghanaian basket weaving for modern fashion spaces. She founded the brand in 2021 as a way to rethink traditional craft within a contemporary design context while working with artisans in Northern Ghana who sustain the tradition. Raised in Northern Ghana, she helped her mother sell fabrics, learning resilience and responsibility through early exposure to trade, where skill and creativity are practiced in daily life. Through Handmade by Akua, she continues to explore how indigenous craftsmanship can exist within global fashion while sustaining the communities that keep the tradition alive.
